Hi Kennedy Musicians! I miss you all very much, and I hope your families are safe and healthy. Here are some things you can do to make music at home.
Kindergarten to Grade 3: Family Folk Song Project This time at home is a perfect time to learn about songs that we can sing with our families. We can learn about our own musical culture through folk songs. Please ask a parent (or grandparent or other special adult in your life) to teach you to sing a song from their childhood. The song could be a song they learned as a child, including a lullaby, hand clapping game, or finger play. We would love to hear songs in Spanish, Portuguese, Creole, English, or any other language. After you have learned your song, record yourself singing the song and go to this survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdbA-HksrlF61utwRMHlgLTV7K2QnsV2KK_j-rsBCK9lx73Dw/viewform?usp=sf_link to send your recording to Ms. Ward. She will transcribe these songs to use in music class, which helps her to make the music we sing in class relevant to the culture of our community. Grade 4 to Grade 6: Song Interview Project We are all home with our families right now, so why not get to know them a little better? Choose someone in your family and interview them about a piece of music that is important to them. This could be a song they remember from their childhood, a song they associate with a special event, a song that helped them through a hard time, or something else. Listen to the song, and then ask your family member to answer the following questions about their song. You can fill out this survey to share your interview with Ms. Ward: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdkNFfehUROngYaA1zvrcbOVeLpFv-y1B5xwcJBivQigW4NRA/viewform?usp=sf_link Grade 4-Grade 6: Singalong Video Click here for a video singalong with Ms. Browne.
